I have been in the process of trying to select Avionics for the Arion Lightning than I am building. One thing I noticed for Dynon AHRS install on Skyview is to get it aligned within 1o degree with the aircraft axis. For the life of me I cant see how that level of accuracy could be attained, just aligning the aircraft that closely on the ground would be a challenge. What experience have others had? Wonder why there isn't a software adjustment to compensate for small installation errors?

Well, for the pitch attitude, there is an adjustment in the menus. For magnetic direction, there's the calibration process. For roll, it's pretty easy to level the aircraft left-to-right, and shim the ADAHRS if necessary. That only leaves yaw...

I used a cheapy laser level held above the airplane for this part. The laser drew a line from the midpoint of the firewall, through the empennage, to the interior midpoint of the vertical stab. I simply marked where it intersected the AHRS mounting shelf.

You then need a carpenter's square to make a perpendicular reference to that line, because only the front and aft faces of the ADAHRS box are suitable for determining its orientation. The mounting tabs on mine were wavy.
