Airport not displaying in map

This weekend I flew to Franklin County airport in TN. Identifier is KUOS. I was able to enter this as a Direct To and the Skyview navigated to it, but it did not display on the map (at any scale). I'm running 3.1 on a 10" Skyview. FYI.

When I loaded the latest nav data it solved my problem.

I see all of other airports around the area, just not KUOS. Im thinking database issue. It does seem tombe in the database at some level, since I can navigate to it. It just doesnt draw.

I took some time to look at the problem with the Jepessen NA data. It appears that none of the airports are shown on the map except airports that have control zones. The airports not shown are in the database. When you do nearest there are a dozen airports within 50 nm of CYXE, a couple of them within 15 nm and CRF5 is just outside the 5nm Class D zone around CYXE. I didn't think to compare the nearest list with the GPS495 but I suspect it's the same list. At any zoom level none of the airports (except as noted below) appear on the map. I checked the settings and the max zoom level for all types of airports is the default 30nm. I don't know if this means they will show up if the zoom is less than or greater than 30 nm but they don't show up at any zoom level. I also tried different zoom settings but still no joy.

One thing I did notice is that the airports with a control zone do show up on the map and on synthetic vision. See CYXE (Class D) and CYQW (Class E) on the screen shots below. The problem is that the round airport symbol blocks out the runway layout on the map. As a suggestion, it would be nice if the airport symbol disappeared at zoom levels where the actual runways can be distinguished.

None of the airports without a control zone show up on the map. On the screen shot below, I have a waypoint at CRF5. However CRF5 is in the database and CFS (Canadian Flight Supplement) and should show as an airport symbol on the map.

The class D (blue circle around CYXE) E (white circle around CYQW) and F (special use - red circle restricted area) zones are shown correctly on the map.

I think the database is complete (and correct) but there seems to be a problem of how it is displayed on the map.

I just fired up a system here with North America Jeppesen data, and I can see CRF5 fine on the map, so something more subtle is going on here.

What software version are you running?
What Jeppesen data cycle do you have?

Also, your engine monitor setup is AWESOME. Your gauge layout is really well done. Any chance you'll share that with us so we can use it?

I'm running 3.1.1. Jeppesen NavData and Obstacles was purchased Jul.05.2011 and is now expired. I'm not at plane so don't know exact cycle. The missing airports were missing before the subscription expired.

I took some more screen shots to try and demonstrate the problem, or confuse the issue. :-/

In the screen shots below, CKJ4 is shown on the map while it's the destination for a DTO. The next screen shows the nearest list. I selected CRF5 and CKJ4 disappears from the map. Also note from the nearest list CJN5 is on the same BRG as CRF5 and only 8nm away but missing from the map. Max zoom level is set to 50nm for all airport types.

Does cranking up the airports and private airports to a higher number (go big) help by any chance?

I'll give that a try this evening. I already changed the range from the default 30nm to 50nm. I'll try a max of 120. Same as the VOR's. They show up as did the NDB's before I turned them off.

I also reloaded all the Jeppesen databases including your gigantic terrain and deleted my google waypoints. Didn't change anything. :-/

Something that I noticed just now is that the only airports that do show up are certified (Cert). The ones that don't show up are Registered (Reg). I don't have any military (Mil) class airports nearby. These are the three clasifications that we have in Canada. The differences are described on page A53 of the Canadian Flight Supplement (CFS). Could it be just a difference in classification? We don't have a private airport classification as far as I know.

No joy. I changed the max range to 120 for the airports, private airports and sea plane bases and zoomed out. A few airports displayed on the map, but when I checked they are all certified airports. No registered airports were displayed. It's starting to look like a classification thing.

Another tidbit of information. I flew to CJS4 a couple of weeks ago and remember seeing the runway on synthetic vision. CJS4 is a registered airport - not certified, but it was my DTO so it appeared on the map. Airports always appear on the map when they are the destination of a DTO. Now I'm wondering if a registered runway would appear in SV if it's not the destination of a DTO. :-? Won't much matter when the bug is fixed I guess.

Oops. Should have checked first. : I (really) checked this time and found some of the airports are registered as opposed to certified. On the following screen shot CYEA, CEH6 and CJF8 are registered airports, while CYXE, CYKY and CYQW are certified. CJF8 only shows up when it's the object of a DTO as noted above. My current theory is that all the airports shown have a symbol of Airport (primary runway direction indicated) or better from page 7-13 of the user manual. Hope this helps.

Alright, we were finally able to repro your issue here. We think we've got it fixed in 3.2, so after that's released (within the next couple of weeks, most likely), please let us know if it's not completely fixed.

Just got back and updated to 3.2. Looks like all the airports are showing up on the map now. Great job. Thanks.

I compared the old display with the new slightly larger text. I noticed that the blocking around the text is darker and color has been used to help highlight. I guess that helps. Better than big chunky text.

Personally I think the old is aesthetically more pleasing then the new. :-/ But I suppose the numbers also are important.
