Altitude Information for Navigation

I fly to several unregistered airports. I add them as User Waypoints. There is a data entry for altitude in the User Waypoint construction box, but the HDX manual says altitutide in that database is informational, not used for navigation. HDX manual ed P 5-65. Therefore, it does not show up in the optional Map Info column on the right side of the display. As a result, the VSR data block at the bottom of the Map Info display is vacant. I often refer to that info to plan a descent.
I see in inference in the forum that one can not add an airport. The altitude of the airport is used for navigational purposes. So, it appears I can not add an airport and cannot use the altitude in the User Waypoint for navigational purposes. I'm stymied.
Does anyone have an idea for a way to get a VSR descent rate presentation for an off-airport site?
Thanks

I agree with you that it would be nice for the elevation data in User Defined Waypoints to be useful for navigation, and I have no idea why Dynon doesn't (or can't, with a toggle maybe) use the elevation info for that purpose - an enhancement request, for sure. If there's some airport that's close by, you could navigate to that and then head to your user waypoint, or at least have it give you an indication of when you've reached the point where your descent rate matches what you like to use.

However, how did you plan your descents before you had an EFIS do it for you? That's a rhetorical question - do it that way, is one other answer.

And here are some tools for that:

Yep, go back to standard TOD mental gymnastics. In my RV9A for instance I usually come down at 1000fpm, covering about 3 miles per minute, if I need to drop 9000' it will take 27 miles.
