ammeter readings

I have a D1000 and have just started the engine for the first time and the amp readings are reading positive with a load on it with engine not running and a negative reading with the engine going ie charging the battery. the manual suggests you can swap the pin 24 and 25 wires on the ammeter shunt to reverse the reading but all that causes is a red cross over the readout. I have the A set up on the shunt. Is this the correct way a ammeter should work ?

That should work, especially if it works in both directions with the wires hooked the other way. I'd double-check that you didn't end up breaking a wire or ending up with something else connected to where it shouldn't be in the re-wiring. You can also see what the EMS thinks it's seeing in the EMS SETUP > SENSOR DEBUG menu too.

Sorry forgot to mention I have checked both wires for continuity from the pins to the connectors and all is good there. Here is two photos of the system with the wires crossed over

So the first image shows .0024V on the shunt, which is 2.4A. The second shows .124V which is 124A and the highest we can read. They're both positive voltages, so we don't see an inversion from the wire switch.

Generically, this looks a lot like the way a broken/miswired system would look.

Something to try: Hook BOTH wires to the same side of the amps shunt. Should read 0. Now move both to the other side. Also zero?

FYI, you must do this with voltage on the shunt. Doing it with the master off and SkyView on backup battery doesn't tell anything.

here are two photos with both wires on one side of the shunt and with them both on the other side. If there is a wiring issue, is it to do with pins 24 and 25 or something else I might have done on the EMS to cause this and if so any clues as to what it might be. Thanks

Jack,
This is a weird one for sure.

I think there are only two options left. Wiring, or the EMS is malfunctioning.

To check the wiring, I think all we can ask is that you once again verify that each wire makes it from the shunt to the right pin with good continuity. If you're sure of that, give us a call or an email and we can set up a repair of that EMS unit.

I wish I could tell you which wire is more likely to cause that issue, but I can't do that with the data I have.

All sorted was a dodgy fuse housing when i disconnected the wires to check them they would be fine, but put back together the housing would not make continuity. Thanks for the help sorry to waste your time

Having a similar problem. I had connected a charger after the battery somehow got run down (master and avionics master on for several days). Now, after recharging the battery, the ammeter is red X-ed.
Pic included of the debug screen that stays pretty much the same no matter what I do. The 3 switches between 3 and 4 with almost no rhyme or reason but nothing else changes. No reason to suspect bad wiring since it worked before and both fuses are good (checked).
Any suggestions?
