Assistance with a Dynon Pitot/AOA probe

Hello,

New to the forums and I have a question regarding my Dynon heated Pitot/AOA probe.
It caught my attention that the stagnation port (opening facing the wind) is not completely open (or otherwise round) all the way through the pressure hole or tube.

It raised my concern because it can somehow restrict the flow of air coming in from the outside, thus having different readings at different attitudes.

I was wondering if this is normal due to the integration of an AOA in the system, or it is a faulty (misaligned) unit?

The unit has always been in the box since shipping, so no damage (i.e. fall) has occurred.

Thanks

That is normal and does not affect the accuracy of the reading.

Does anyone using the Dynon AOA have visual presentation, somthing that can be mounted in the windscreen so you can keep your head out of the cockpit when in he pattern and landing? Dynon tells me they do not have. Is there one that would be compatible with the Dynon AOA? I am using the SkyView system.

Thanks,

SkyView has an audio output for AoA that lets you keep your eyes outside and hear an approach to the stall. It works very well.

There was a company that sold remote AoA indicators for a while but there wasn't enough interest to keep the business going.

If you're into a little electronic work, there is a PIC called a PicAxe that can pick up the Dynon serial stream and with a little programming, illuminate various LED's as you move through the AOA range. Cheap as chips and shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to fabricate.

If anyone is interested, I'll try to do up a schematic.

I have a little experince building amps, TV's and radios in the early days of chips. Would like to see the schematic.

Would rather have a visual than an audio while in slow flight near the ground.

Thanks,

Thanks for the replies.

I have another, non-technical question: Which is the best protective cover for this pitot tube?
Does anyone have a link or a part number for a standard red with velcro closures for this pitot?

thanks

I sold these indicators for a number of years, but it was no longer profitable due to high support costs for custom programming so I discontinued the product.  Now, I have developed an AoA stick shaker that solves the inherent problem of a visual display by using haptic feedback.  Visual displays are too easy to ignore, even when in the line of sight.  Audio alarms sometimes upset passengers. Haptic indicators are hard to ignore, yet discreet.

I am currently waiting the arrival of some long lead time parts before I can fill my intial orders.  I'll post on the forum when available.
