Hello. My club in north-Italy just bought a Van's RV10 equipped with a Dynon Skyview. The autopilot is set on "expert-mode" which is not useful and too complicated for our VFR pilots so I entered the settings and selected the simplified mode but I got "AP-ERROR" message... Besides I haven't found any detailled explanations about using expert-mode in the pilot's user guide which explains the simplified mode then move directly to the COM radio operation...

I can't answer your question about the error but...

There are some good Dynon videos on the Skyview system.

The AP Button panel allows for auto-trim, along with other nice features, which may not working unless in Expert mode. I found it easy to navigate after watching the videos.

We don't have any good ideas on the AP-ERROR. If it works in EXPERT mode, it should work in SIMPLE mode as well. If you put it back to expert, does it still work? Any more details on where on the screen you see this error and exactly what it says? What software version are you on?

As for using the autopilot, expert mode is covered in detail in our user guide starting on page 8-12. There is a chance you have a much older manual.

Also, there is a dedicated section to expert autopilot controls in the SkyView Pilot User Guide. In the SkyView Classic / SkyView Touch version of the manual, this currently begins on page 8-12. It's page 8-16 in the SkyView HDX Pilot User Guide. The latest manuals can be found at docs.dynonavionics.com.

If you have the SV-AP-PANEL, I believe that if you select simplified mode, you should still be able to use the AP, but only via the on-screen controls. The SV-AP-PANEL's control are unavailable when the AP is in simplified mode, although the included trim control functions continue to work. Did you change only the control scheme? Is there a chance the servos didn't have power going to them? The main way that pilots end up seeing the AP error message is when the servos aren't powered due to being turned off by an external circuit breaker or switch.
