Barometer warning?

It's the little things that matter, I have always heard. Yesterday as I was departing my airport I heard a warning about my altimeter setting. I cannot remember exactly what it said, but Skyview seemed to realized I had not adjusted/set my altimeter to the correct setting. I have a steam gauge that I habitually set at the airport elevation, but this time, setting the Skyview altimeter didn't happen

Departing out of the pattern is when I heard the warning, "check barometer setting" or something to that effect. Uh? What? Yep, I forgot that checklist item somehow. I set the Skyview altimeter. To the correct setting. it made me smile, the unexpected but very much appreciated reminder.

Thanks Dynon! If you would, elaborate on this warning. I didn't see anything in the user manual describing it.

Page 12-9 of the manual covers it. It's new in 11.0 software, so you need the latest manual:

"The current BARO setting and the nearest METAR-based altimeter setting are more than .1 inHg apart."

With 11.0, you can also just press and hold the BARO knob and it will auto set the baro to the nearest METAR, no manual spinning needed (this needs ADS-B in flight, but works on the ground for all installs)

Dynon please correct me if I am wrong, but the barometer only automatically syncs on the ground if SV is receiving ADS-B. If SV does not receive ADS-B on the ground, then the barometer setting reverts to a GPS-derived altitude which may or may not correspond with your current ATIS barometer setting. At my base controlled airport (KSTS), I cannot get ADS-B on the ground. Otherwise, the barometer sync function works great once in the air!

The barometer never automatically syncs.

If you are on the ground and you request a sync, then it uses ADS-B if it has it for that airport. If it does not, then it uses the GPS altitude, which will be very close to the ATIS, but yes, can be off by 0.01 or so (which is only 10'). Your altimeter is allowed to be off by 30' even when set correctly!

Could you make this an option, perhaps on the ADS-B setup screen?

The reason I ask: on a recent cross-country I received a number of "false alarms" as I set the altimeter as instructed by ARTCC but the nearest field with a METAR differed considerably.  As you know here in the west, airfields can be widely spaced and there can be sizeable pressure differences on different sides of large mountain ranges.

Nice touch on the "press and hold the BARO knob" feature.  I missed that in the manual.

The ability to defeat the warning is actually already there and is in SETUP MENU > PFD SETUP > BARO MISMATCH WARNING

I do have to say, the press and hold to set as you approach your destination airport is one of the nicest features of the ADSB integration.

I used the press and hold functionality for setting the barometer to the nearest airport for the first time yesterday. I think it is awesome. On a flight yesterday, I set my barometer manually based on the ATIS report at my field to 30.11. We departed and used this function a few times on the way to our destination and return flight. I set it again to my home field as we were about fifteen minutes out and it set to 30.10. As I then listened to the ATIS the report was for 30.08. Not a huge difference but just note that the info fed to the Skyview from ADSB can be aged enough to warrant double checking.
