Can someone help me why I can’t get a bearing needle from my sl30? The sl30 shows the localized I'm tuned to

No signal is shown and the aircraft is on the ground. Since it is a localizer, you would need to have the aircraft in the beam which is quite narrow and aligned with the runway. Try switching to VOR mode. If you can receive the VOR on the ground at your field you will be able to see the bearing on the Skyview.

For this picture I was on the ground but similar inflight. On the sl30 i showed full scale deflection, because I was off set. What I would expect to see on the Dynon is the same full scale deflection. But even in flight no needle and no virtually dme. One thing I didn’t do was rotate the course on the sky view. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Rotating course does not matter on localizer/ILS but will on VOR. If you center the needle in flight on the SL30, do you get the needle on the Dynon?

To clarify terms, the needle that indicates left/ right is the CDI (course deviation indicator). The needle that the CDI is a part of, is the course needle. A bearing pointer is a separate pointer and 2 bearing pointers can be selected in addition to the bearing needle. You will need to have the OBS (bearing needle) set to or near the localizer course, or you won’t get the needle. and as previously stated, unless you are somewhat aligned to the localizer you won’t see the CDI present.

Thanks Dan for the write up. Issue solved with the help in tech support today. Turn out that i previously read this but it bears repeating. If you are interfacing a SL30 to a Dynon, the SL30 displays/control head setting must be set to none. I did this and not I have CDI needles and the CRS knob works. Thank you tech support.
