Boot error problem

Hello,

I powered up my Skyview today, as I have more than a dozen times, however on the main Skyview Logo boot page the screen locked. An error message at the top said something to the effect "cannot access drive - contact Dynon support". I did just that. Dave helped me reboot using the 1,2 & 5 soft keys. Skyview started normally for a couple of subsequent tries. However, on about the 3 or 4th time powering up today, I got the same message. Anyone else seen this before? All my EMS sensors appears to be functioning, however, I am not showing any voltage from by backup battery although it does power Skyview when ships power is disconnected. The battery backup is a "no-brainer" to hook-up, so I am pretty sure there's no problem there. Admittedly I haven't started trouble shooting this yet. Thought I would start here.

Tony,
My Skyview is doing the same thing. I've reinstalled the software twice an it seems to be working now, at least for an hour flight. I talked to Mike, a couple days ago, an he said I would have to send it back to them if it kept doing that. As you, the only way I could get it to turn off, was disconnect the external bat. I know about the 1,2,an 5 button now. Ron

Ron, make sure you update here if you find a solution. I will do the same. I am a bit uncomfortable as I have a single Skyview and no back up flight instruments. Of course VFR I don't need anything (to land). Makes me consider expanding my Skyview to a second unit or finding a backup flight instrument solution.

I had a strange thing happen a couple of times the other day. The altitude wouldn't settle down when I booted. It went from about -100,000 to +100,000 and back and forth a few times before it finally settled down. I did have a heater in the plane below the ADAHRS (still cold in Canada). It wasn't extremely hot as it has a thermostat but I think it might have affected the ADAHRS or one of the pressure hoses. I had the pitot cover on. I can't recall exactly, but I think it was displaying six digits for altitude.

The next day I had a non boot. I think the non boot was a dead backup battery. I might have left the system on with the power off and I tried to boot from the backup battery. When I turned the power on it came up with and error about the memory - contact Dynon etc. A second boot with power fixed the problem.

The last boots I tried were normal. I'm not concerned as the erratic behavior can probably be explained.

I too have a single unit in an 8, an only go IFR in VFR, till I get confidence. I'll keep you updated.
My altitude sometimes does the same as yours mmarien but seems to settle down in a few seconds. It does cause a little concern.
Part of the reason I went with Dynon, not withstanding 1000.00 rebate for the Blue Mountain, which I have not gotten yet, is that they back there products quit well, so I'm sure they will fix any problems. Ron

I had the altitude display at around 100k also. That was just after installed the HD terrain file. After I rebooted it was fine.

I powered up SkyView several times today using the ships battery with no boot errors. Right now I think it might be related to the power supply that I was using to power my electrical.

mmarien and TonyPhilips: we've heard one or two other reports of the altitude thing, and if you could take a datalog and send it to us, that would be fantastic. First of all, do this step on the ground, not in flight, because it will take a few minutes during which you can't do anything. Basically, a few minutes after it happens and settles out, plug in your USB stick, go to SETUP MENU>SYSTEM SOFTWARE>EXPORT DATALOG, give it a name, then hit export. The system will look hung for a few minutes as it saves the datalog. Then, grab that file off the stick, zip it up, and send it to support at dynonavionics dot com with a link to this thread and a note that we asked you to send it in in. Thanks!

Just a note that even zipped, the files can be 100megs. If more than 10ish, try attaching them to a post here instead of emailing them. If that doesn't take, let us know and we can point you to an FTP location to upload them.

Same here. I was thinking of videoing it, but it never happened again.  I'll be out on the weekend and will see if I can capture the phenomenon if it happens again.

Aren't computers great. They dazzle you when they're working and again when they're not.

I was able to capture the phenomenon this morning but the file is 500MB and the zipped file is 180MB. Here is a link to it:

Just an update on this. I was showing the panel a couple of nights ago and the altitude worked fine every time I turned it on. The reason I was on this topic was because of a boot problem. The error I got was "Corrupt or missing storage device. Contact Dynon etc."

This error I'm sure was when I tried to start Skyview from a dead backup battery. I have a habit of running off the backup battery if I'm just fiddling around. With main power the Dynon booted and came up with the error. An immediate second boot was fine, but thats when the altitude started acting up.

I've had a few times when the altitude phenomenon happens, but now that I think of it, it maybe happening when I try and boot from a low or dead backup battery. I don't think I have had any problems when I use the main power switch.

That was the message I got also. "Corrupt or missing storage device. Contact Dynon"

However, I was running off a power supply and I now believe it wasn't grounded properly. I haven't seen that message when using ships power or the backup battery.

The same was for me.
I have a defective avionics breaker switch, which sometimes does not contact perfectly AND a battery backup. Well, when it happens, SkyView blocks. I think the problem is not related to a low charged battery backup, because when I feed the SV from the bus and shut off power and tell it to stay alive, it is OK on the backup battery for at least one minute (after that, I shut it).
