Boot up issues with 3.2

Hate to jump on this bandwagon but here goes: I updated both screens (10 and a 7) to 3.2 with no problems, Since then I have trouble getting the large screen to boot up about half the time. It goes to bright white or vertical colored lines all across or part way across and then just goes dark. The 7" screen has no problem AND it also has no back up battery like the large screen does. Today when I unplugged the b.u batt on the large screen it worked fine. WHat gives? Otherwise, all is ok and working great. Thanks, Craig

Re: Boot up issues with 3.2

I've had this problem when the battery power is low. Once I get it charged up again it works fine.
Check the bu battery charge, mine was too low to keep the display running when the main battery was too low.
I knew the backup battery was fully charged when I went to start the engine and the display with the bu battery did not reboot itself.

Re:  Boot up issues with 3.2

snowyrvr:

What you're reporting with the battery apparently causing bootup issues is not the norm. We had a number of report about problems such as this prior to v3.2, but v3.2 has fixed all known bootup / battery issues. It may be, simply, that you have a bad battery.

This is, admittedly a hack, and offering this as a troubleshooting step, not a fix:

Boot the unit up without the battery, THEN plug in the battery. If the unit remains stable, leave the battery connected and allow it to charge.   You can monitor battery charge state:
SETUP > LOCAL DISPLAY SETUP > DISPLAY HARDWARE INFORMATION
and watch BATTERY STATUS and CHARGE STATUS.

If you think you have a bad battery, contact Dynon Tech Support - 425-402-0433 or support@dynonavionics.com

Re: Boot up issues with 3.2

I have been having boot up problems when its warm outside (my EMS just shows as a big red cross) pulling the back up batt and then rebooting normally works (pain in the arse when your all strapped in!!!)

I updated to 3.2 and the problem is still there! although just turning the display off/on now cures it and i dont have to pull the back up batt.

last time you asked me what the EMS LED was doing, so the weekend when it happened i jumped out and had a look. the red LED was flashing once a seccond.

Re: Boot up issues with 3.2

Is it just the EMS that goes out? If so, it sounds like there might be something up with that particular module. Give our tech support a call at 425-402-0433 or an email at support at dynonavionics dot com so we can get into a bit more with you.

Re: Boot up issues with 3.2

this is for Admin....the B/U batt may be bad but I doubt it. I've been flying almost every day for an hour or two. This did not happen until the upgrade to 3.2. Yesterday I disconnected the battery and the large screen still does it. It goes full bright with nothing, then full dark, then some colored vert lines, then dark. After 3-4 tries, it boots properly. This was the case with the batt connected as well.

Re: Boot up issues with 3.2

I too have a similar issue. SV10 and SV7 installed, each with BU Battery. Both have been working flawlessly for the last 100 hours of flight time. On the first flight after upgrading to 3.2, the SV10 did the black screen symptom many are reporting. I think it might be from over- or under-voltage. This happened to my SV10 back in the 2.x days, but then quit after 3.0. That may have been a coincidence and the real problem is the BUB is too low to prevent it. Maybe upgrading to 3.2 wasn't the problem either, but rather I drained the BUB in the process and brought the symptom back?
I'll run it on the charger tonight and get the back up battery charged good, and report back after flying tomorrow to let you know if that fixed it.

"I have a 10" & 7". Both with battery back-up. My 7" will not boot at least 50% of the time. I usually shut down with the master switch & re-start again. 100% of the time, both screens fire up on the second try. Very Frustrating.

So first question - are you running firmware version 3.2? We fixed a few power glitches with the latest update.

Yes. I upgraded to 3.2 the weekend after it's release. I ran into my first boot-up issue on my 2nd flight after the update to 3.2. I did call in to support, but the answer I got was to un-plug my 2 batteries. As you can imagine, that is not a good / safe fix. I'll keep re-booting until a the software bug is fixed. I see many others have the same or worse problem. I will keep checking your home page every day until I see the 3.3 fix is released. Thanks.

So just to be clear: We have a small release coming before 3.3 (which is a major feature release), but it doesn't fix any known power up or similar issues. At the moment, we have had minimal reports of power issues with 3.2, and have been unable to reproduce or verify any of the few reports that we've heard. So from an engineering point of view, we don't have a problem to fix at the moment. That doesn't mean that we don't have something going on that we've yet to figure out.

Based on conversations with our engineers, a hardware problem with the battery or the display is the most likely suspect here.

It sounds like it's only your 7" display that's acting up from your previous comment. If you switch the backup batteries, does that move the problem to the 10" display?

Thank you for your response. I have had 2 separate incidence with the 10" on boot up. Once it did just as the 7" does, just doesn't boot at all. The 2nd time it had static on 100% of the screen coverage. On both incidence, the 7" booted up perfect. It just that the problem is more common with the 7".
However, the 7" has never had the 100% screen static issue like the 10" did. The only issue with the 7" is that about 50% of the time, it doesn't boot at all without cycling the master twice. I appreciate your time & looking forward to your new release.
