Can blue Bearing Pointer be changed back to yellow?

The Bearing Pointer in my HDX used to be yellow. Then I updated my System Software to the current version, and now the Bearing Pointer is blue. The yellow pointer contrasted nicely with the magenta HSI. But the blue pointer does not contrast with the HSI (to my eyes). I found an earlier thread in which Dynon explained that it changed the color from yellow to blue to satisfy FAA standardization specifications. But I greatly prefer the old yellow. I've searched the Pilot's Guide and the Installation Guide for instructions on how to change the Bearing Pointer back to yellow, but I can't find anything that explains how to do it. Is there a way (even an undocumented "hack")?

There isn't a way currently, but we definitely have it on our list to take a look at this (that's not a promise that it will change.)

Out of curiosity, where are the "standardization specifications" from the FAA? And are they only for things like HSIs and similar components of a PFD?
Because the Map screen uses colors for airspaces, e.g., that are distinctly non-standard by comparison to SEC charts.

If Avidyne can have BLUE METAR flags for VFR and GREEN METAR flags for MVFR on their certified gear (basically the opposite from EVERY SINGLE EFB or weather icon Ive seen), then you should be able to make that pointer rainbow colored!!!!

I’d love to have you take a look at this sooner rather than later. I flew along the coast yesterday from Santa Monica to San Diego. It was a beautiful, bright-sunshine day. At one point, the HSI and Bearing Pointer were at different angles, I could barely make out which one was which because their colors looked so similar to me. I never had that problem when the Bearing Pointer was yellow.

I actually rolled my Skyview software back to the previous version for this very issue. Having both BRG 1 and BRG 2 pointers both blue was not usable for IFR navigation. With BRG 1 yellow and BRG 2 orange, there is a nice contrast to the HSI being magenta (GPS/RNAV) or green (VOR/ILS). Approaches over water with synthetic vision active rendered both the bearing pointers unusable when they were blue.

Dynon,

Did you see skysailor’s post? Not all updates are improvements. The earlier version of your software had yellow and orange bearing pointers. Can’t you, please, just get the lines of code that did that and put that code back into the current version? It’s not about the aesthetic. It’s about utility and maybe even safety.

Hoping to be able to thank you for doing that, soon. Your otherwise happy customer,

Lon
