Carb temp sensor

Hello,

My carb temp sensor has been working well for 2+ years, but last night I checked it and it was reading -42degF in a 55 deg hangar with the engine off.

Did the sensor cack? Can it be repaired? or is it time to get a new one?

Check for continuity resistance between the point you have grounded your EMS and the point at which the sensor is grounded (probably can just put the lead against the outside of the sensor).

If there is resistance, your ground path to the engine needs attention.

To test that theory, remove the sensor and ground it directly to the same point you ground your EMS; use a lead (perhaps with alligator clips on both ends) from the sensor lead in the engine compartment back to the sensor, and then check what it reads there in the cockpit.

There is also a table of expected resistance values based on temperature that Dynon may be able to provide you.

Would be nice if those tables were in the manual for each sensor...

:)

A low reading like that sounds like an "open" connection somewhere, which could be either a failure of the sensor or of the wiring going to it. Does your sensor have black/white wires or just black wires? What is the resistance between the two wires?
