OK, I finally bought and downloaded the Seattle Avionics charts to a 32gb Cruzer Fit stick. Plugged it into the Skyview - and nothing happened!
Am I supposed to do some sort of "installation" of the data to show up on the Skyview screen?

Did you follow the prep instructions on Dynons web site?

Is the drive formatted in FAT32?

I followed the instructions in both Seattle Avionics and Dynon. Never saw any FAT32 stuff there though. I did the "make a folder" named SkyViewUS though.

The Skyview can only read the drive if it's formatted in FAT32. Page 3-18 from the current Installation manual.

You can check that from File Explorer.

OK, that checked out, FAT32 it is. I am upgrading to 14.2.1 so see if that helps.

When you say you plugged it in and nothing happened, what exactly did you select?  You have to select what charts you want to see on the map window, sectionals, low altitude charts or terrain.  I think the is done with the screen button.  If you select an airport, then you have to tab over to charts and select which chart you want.  If you just plugged in the USB and started the EFIS, you will not see anything different from before.

Hey thanks, that was what I needed! Somehow I expected to see flashing lights and bells ringing or something.

I am still having problems with this. I have downloaded from Seattle Avionics twice, still the same problem.
When I touch the "layers" button, all that shows up is "terrain" and "weather", but no sectionals. I go to the airport, and can get the airport diagram (really nice too), but no other options are available. I think maybe I am not getting sectionals on the memory stick, but the descriptions are vague.
What should I be seeing on the memory stick menu that would indicate that I have sectionals loaded on it?

When you open the Seattle Avionics data manager, do you have green balls across the "Airport Diagrams" row (on both device and computer) when your USB stick is plugged in? I'm infering this is the case because you're able to see the airport diagrams.

What do you see in the "Scanned charts" area? Are there any areas selected. What are the ball colors?

It seems like your dates are off? Is the date on your computer correct? Probably want to fix that.

I am having a lot of trouble understanding just what is supposed to happen. A few minutes later I got this when I pulled up the chart manager:

Hi Don,

Something odd is going on -- my guess is that your computer's clock is set wrong so you'd see green even for dates that are obviously in the past. Please contact Seattle Avionics support directly rather than post here -- we don't always monitor a Dynon support forum. Email: Support@SeattleAvionics.com or just click the blue link at the bottom of the ChartData Manager itself that says "Questions..."

Thanks, Steve

I am slowly figuring out the Seattle Avionics web site. Part of my problem was I was trying to make the web site chartmanager sample do something!
Finally figured out how to get the sectionals all downloaded and into Skyview, but the "brilliance" of the sectionals seems disappointing, kind of looks like a grey film over it. Is this natural or does the Skyview have some option to make the sectionals more vivid?

I guess the best way to show what I am speaking of is to give a screenshot, here it is. This is so fuzzy and lacking in detail as to be nearly useless. Surely there is some way to make it better?

You have weather turned on, and currently no weather data. The "purple haze" you see is showing you where we have no weather data. It acts the same no matter what other layer you have turned on.

Gosh, you were correct! I turned the weather off and select sectionals - and then it gets worse!!

It's acting like it doesn't have data for that area. I noticed above when you had weather, the sectional data was missing right below where you are as well.

First thing, give it a moment.

Second, if you have the USB plugged into a extension cable or the USB on the wire from the harness, try it right in the back of the unit (just for debugging purposes)

Third, you're pretty zoomed out- you're at a zoom level where a real paper sectional would be about 2' across. Does it show up when you zoom in?

OK, it seems I am going backwards! Tried plugging the chart data into the USB ports on the back of the Skyview, no difference. Tried zooming in and out with all combinations of selections - AND NOW I HAVE NO SECTIONALS!!! Tried giving it lots and lots of time, no joy there either.
Your earlier concern of the blank at the bottom I think is because I have not downloaded Mexico sectionals, and live a few miles from the Mexico/US border.

Given that you were having issues with the datamanager, I'm wondering whether you have a partial / corrupted set of charts on your stick. If you haven't tried reformatting the memory stick after getting everything on the data manager end working, you might try that (then prepare the stick via the datamanager again, and then finally let it copy everything anew).
