During last ifr, with intructor in passenger seat, i found lots stuff in lap and ipad glare and suggestion for better cockpit mgt. So i am seriously investigating replacing foreflight with flyq or airmate. I got checklists into skyview yesterday, now Trying to get charts off lap. I was disappointed to find out that two subscription are reqired for use of charts on skyview and the seattle avionics flyq efb with slingshot, 119$ and 169$ respectively. Ouch. i an very comfortable with foreflight. Im going to try airmate next maybe less expensive

I had the pleasure of talking with a Dynon rep at Sun N Fun. The Airmate ( a European company) will give you the same charts and plates as you are getting with Seattle ( for half the price) but the airport diagrams will not be as detailed and perhaps not so up to date as Seattle’s. I too have been using Seattle products and once I upgraded my laptop to USB 3.1, it has improved speed but then again I am a patient man. Plug in the drives and walk away for 30 minutes and you’re done. Sometimes it’s quick if there are no major updates. Other times it takes longer.

I also asked about second source EGT/CHT probes and they said that is allowed. I had to complain about the low quality of the Dynon probes and they suggested using JPI probes.

The material difference is that Airmate currently only has the FAA airport diagrams. They'll always be up to date. The Seattle Avionics subscriptions includes their digitized database of airport diagrams - something like an additional ~4,000, that covers most US airports (they're the former flight guide diagrams, if you remember those).

I have flash drives in the plane now but wanted a couple more when I misplace them. Any recommendations on flash drive? Was thinking 32 gb, but was unsure of 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, or 3.2...Im an idiot and dont know what the difference is and what may or may not be compatible

Please look at the installation manual. It provides the recommended drives. Buyer beware, some newer ones are formatted for videos and are not compatible. I believe they should be FAT32 formatted ones you want.

Here’s what I’ve recently switched to:

I have AF-6600s and they work just fine. I switched because I like the smaller profile. AFS supplied them when I upgraded to the AF-6600, so I switched all my EFIS to them plus a second set so I can swap them out for data updates.

I suspect that they should work just fine on the HDX too.

I use these same ones - I have the USB port on my panel, so I didn't want something protruding out since you need to keep it plugged in. Hardly even notice them, and have had no problem - I do the same thing, use two, and rotate them when doing data updates

I'm using the same Sandisk Ultra Fit, but the 128gb version. Works fine.
