During the first five or so hours of flight time I was satisfied that my CHT were all normal, actually quite low for a new engine, except CYL # 1 was a little high. Now on a pusher with updraft cooling this shouldn't be so. Number 4 is the hottest. Upon inspection, I found the probes as they came out of the Dynon package, were not reaching deep enough into the CYL head holes. In other words, they were not bottoming out in the end of this hole; they were just in the hole - floating. When I made sure the probes bottomed out in the holes my CHT's went up abt 50 degrees and were all equal. I was under the impression "no assembly required". Make sure the bayonet on the CHT probes extend fully into the CYL Head.

Nice catch. That was some good investigative work. I will check mine as well. Thanks!

FWIW - what I do is make sure the 'nut' is 2 -2.5 " from the probe end then install it, that way you always have pressure pushing the probe against the cylinder metal. ;)
