My Dynon 180's HSI acts like a compass, swings all around. Has reverse sensing also. Have to have pointer always pointing towards station. Any Ideas..Thanks

My Instrument Instructor and FAA Examiner said it shouldnt have reverse sensing. Also, heading acts like a compass, have to lead it or lag it. this normal? Thanks

If your heading indicator is leading and lagging, redo your remote compass calibration and check the intensity and inclination settings for your area.  It should not do that.

When you say reverse sensing, please explain in detail what you mean.

It is possible to make any HSI indicate reverse sensing if you don't set the course/OBS correctly.  this is especially true if you are trying to track a back course.

What is your Nav source you are using and how is it connected to the Dynon?

Nav source is VOR/LOC. Shooting VOR approach, following Victor airways, you have to rotate OBS 180 degrees once you pass over station. If you dont, you will get reverse sencing. On GPS source, it works fine. I have a GTN 650 coupled to the Dynon 180.

Mine does not do that but I have a 430W and I am not sure but sounds like there may be something up with their integration with the 650.

Dynon support will need to confirm.

This is an example of what should happen:

Say you are flying toward a VOR station due North of your position and there is no wind.

The OBS/course should be set to N or 360°

The heading indication should be N or 360°

The CDI indication should be centered if you are on the course, over to the right if you are left of course and over to  the left if you are right of course.  The TO/FROM indication should be indicating TO

Once you cross the station, all that should happen is the TO/FROM indication should start indicating FROM.

The CDI indicator should still indicate right if you are left of course and left if you are right of course.

If this is not true, then there is something wrong with the 650 integration with the Dynon.
