Connecting older GNS 430 to Skyview

I read the Wiki about settings on both the Dynon and the Garmin 430. The setup is in a friend's plane and I am trying to help set it up as practice for my own Skyview install in the next few months. The issue is that the 430 is non WAAS and given that the ARNC 429 menus are not identical to the Wiki, may not be the latest software. The only 430 I have to compare it to at this time is a very current WAAS unit which is interfaced to Garmin 3X so there are (understandably) differences.

Is there an older version of the Wiki which might show connections to a non Waas 430? The plane has a new Skyview with the latest software, a Dynon transponder, ARINC 429, GPS 250 and autopilot servos. The transponder, GPS 250 and servos all connect and operate. Of the connections mentioned in the Wiki, there is no menu selection for "VNAV- Enable Labels". The Wiki also calls for the SDI menu item to be set to "Common". I have complied with the Wiki as much as the settings will allow but the Skyview does not see the 430 and as such the HSI will not show course guidance. If I set a course on the map, the HSI can show it and I believe the autopilot will track to it. It is all boiling down to getting the 430 in the loop. Should I try to use the Serial Out of the 430 or just ARINC 429? I would be grateful for any help.

I have an older Garmin GTX327 and it doesn't output any recognizable serial data. In fact, unlike what the downloaded manual describes, it has no configuration settings for serial TX. The xponder message on the SV is crossed out when I set it for xponder RX. All the things is should be able to do don't work - except of course it works fine as a xponder. So like my GTX327 your 430 may too old to interface with anything. I emailed Garmin about a firmware update for my GTX327 but didn't get a response :-/.

My understanding about the Garmin digital transponders is that they can accept the serial stream from the Dynon and use it to report altitude vice using an encoder. I do not think the transponder serial out is read by the Dynon. I hope the Skyview can interface with a legacy 430 since only a dealer can upgrade the software on the Garmin.

RX status from Garmin xponders has been a SV feature since release 2.6:

But evidently not from older models. I'd be interested if there is a way to update the GTX327 firmware. It would be a lot less expensive then an upgrade to the GTX33 as that also requires the GTN750 to run it  :-?

SkySailor - neither of the VNAV labels or the SDI are critical for that to work. Beyond that, the settings should be very similar if not idential to the current models. First - do you have the both the ARINC connections AND the serial connection to the ARINC-429 module connected? Next, do you have the serial out on the 430 configured to aviation format? You might post ALL of the relevant 430 settings, for both the ARINC 429 and the serial output pages here, and we can comment a bit better.

Good news...the 430 and Skyview are working perfectly now. Thanks to everyone (and Dynon Support) for responding. I can post the settings here but shouldn't they also be in the Wiki? I will post the settings here tomorrow after I record them all. If anyone can give me the proper way to add to the Wiki, I will be happy to put them there as well. Both Serial and ARINC 429 are used.

Or you could just use the Dynon Transponder that does everything the GTX33 does for the same price as a GTX327. ;)

Of late, the Dynon Avionics Wiki came under assault by very determined spammers, and the only way we could keep it online was by shutting off new accounts completely. If you have a previous account on the Wiki, it should still work. If not, we can set you up a new account (via email - support@dynonavionics.com), or (easier!) just email the info to support@dynonavionics.com and explain that the info is for posting on the Wiki.

Thanks for being proactive in sharing your info for other Dynon customers to not have to learn the hard way.
