I'd like to connect a Powerflarm core RS232 NMEA output to a Skyview serial port. Since the Skyview system is only listening to GPS NMEA sentences does it need a bi-directional handshake connection, or is only a single wire necessary from the Powerflarm RS232 out to the Skyview RS232 in plus a common ground?

I have a Garmin Aera connected as a Position source using only one wire. The second wire is not required. For that matter, it's not even required for the Dynon puck (yet).

NMEA data stream is a one way data flow. There can be several listening devices but only one talker in the NMEA protocol. So one wire (TX) from the NMEA talker device to a listener (RX) device plus a common ground is all that is needed. Anything sent the other way will be ignored.
