Crazy feature request.

Yeah, this is crazy but hear me out.

I've developed multiple devices that sniff the serial datastream from a SkyView system. Specifically an external AoA indicator, a Stick Shaker a speed-scheduling dual trim controller and, most recently, an auto-trim controller.

Some of these devices can be configured from the factory defaults by a simple, short text string. Currently this requires removal of the device for bench configuration, or the installation of a switch and separate dataport in the aircraft.

It would be much easier to send a text file from the SkyView. This file can be provided on a USB stick and sent to the data port from the config/setup mode once to configure the device.

The benefit to Dynon is that you would be supporting and encouraging the 3rd party ecosystem for the SkyView. For minimal effort on your part you can save on the development of supplementary devices and keep your customer base loyal.

Please think about it and PM me if you want to move forward. I worked with Ian J on the specs for the ADAHRS and EMS protocols, so we have a history of cooperation.

Thanks, Vern

Vern,
I've also developed devices reading and using the Skyview data stream (Flap overspeed warning, Cowl flap controller, Door seal inflater - with more to come) and I second your request.

Number 3...

My little "project" is described here (http://dynonavionics.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1400098744/5#2). With the requested feature I would replace some of the constants with parameters from the "command file".

Some feedback after sending the command file would be helpful. You could write back a file to the USB device (PowerFLARM Core does it this way) or - easier - display a short message that has been returned by the external device. But this won't be easy because there is no communication in this direction yet...

Vern,
I'm years out from an avionics installation (just working my wings right now), but these two items are of great interest to me. Are you considering making plans/instructions available for them?
Thanks

The AoA indicator-not sure, the open source Stick Shaker will be replacing this function and will be online soon.  The open source Trim controller is here: http://store.makerplane.org/m-pwr-2-dual-channel-variable-speed-trim-control-kit/.

All of these designs are open-source hardware, so you can copy the designs, buy boards, kits or completed product.  Some of the firmware is open source but much of it is closed.  You can always develop your own code on the boards, which have been application hardened to withstand aircraft environments.

I have a guiding principal that everything I release as an open-source design has been flight tested. In most cases these devices have been permanently installed in my own aircraft.

Everything posted on MakerPlane has documentation/installation guides.

Cheers, Vern
