Some time, possibly about a year ago, in a discussion I had with someone from Dynon, it was mentioned that you hoped to be able to cross-fill flight plans from devices such as the GTN 750/650 or GNS 530/430.

In other words, create a plan in an external device and it would become the default plan in Skyview, so that all GPS systems are, as it were, "on the same page" and any GPS input will allow the aircraft to follow the flight plan, not just the GPS device which created the plan.

I see that the new software allows us to display a flight plan from an external device, but, if this device goes AWOL during the flight, do we still have its flghtplan in Skyview or do we have to have loaded the same flightplan, separately, into Skyview in order to continue navigating.

Eric,
Right now what we have is display of your flight plan from an external navigator. This is not exactly "cross fill" for the reasons you listed. If the external GPS goes offline, so does this display.

One issue with cross-fill from a IFR GPS to a VFR GPS is that they can't follow the flight plan in the same way. SkyView won't sequence the legs at exactly the same point, and the flight plan in SkyView doesn't do things like holds. So for now, the external GPS is the one driving everything, and we are displaying exactly what it says to. We don't sequence until it tells us to.

We do have flight plan "import" on our future list. This will still have the above issues, but it does mean you will have a backup of some flight plans . In enroute situations, this will work just fine, but it will never be a full backup in an approach. Those georeferenced approach plates on SkyView work awesome for that though.

On the basis that "there are no dumb questions" this may be the exception which disproves the rule!

I assume that, were I flying from, say LAX to SFO, via a series of waypoints loaded in a GTN 650 and this was doing the navigating, and I had loaded a flightplan into Skyview, with exactly the same route, if I change navigators from GTN to Skyview, the flight plan continues from the point of change, it does not attempt to start from the beginning.

(I did say it was a dumb question) ;D ;D
