We have the dsab connection as well as the null modem cable installed between the two units rs232 download/upling/interconnect connection and have been unable to interface the two units.

I just installed the 3.0 upgrade hoping it may change something is the settings, but no joy at all.

suggestions?

thank you!

We'll need more information than that.

The D120 talks to the D100 via DSAB. The D100 talks to the D120 via serial. They are totally independent.

Are you seeing "EMS not detected" or "EFIS not detected" on either screen? If you're not, you probably just aren't bringing up the EFIS or EMS screens. You can do so by holding down the rightmost button for a few seconds and choosing the screen you want. More info about this is in our manuals.

Yes i realise they are independant and that is why we have both hooked up per dynon instructuons

So one thing to note is that we have version 4.0 of our firmware coming out pretty much imminently. This eliminates the need for the null modem, period. With 4.0, only the two DSAB wires will need to be connected. So, here's what I'd recommend:

Try to get EMS to EFIS communications working with the firmware you have on the units currently. If you can get that to work, once you update to 4.0, the units will talk to each other completely. Now, to troubleshoot why DSAB is not working:
-Make sure that BOTH units are running 3.0. This can be confirmed by going into each unit's SETUP>VERSION menu.
-Confirm that the blue and green DSAB wires are pinned out correctly - refer to the EFIS and EMS manuals for the exact pinout.

With 3.0, there is no setup necessary to get the EMS on the EFIS screen when DSAB is correctly hooked up. It just works if both units are on 3.0 and the wires are connected. Note that after the 4.0 upgrade, this changes a bit - there's a tiny bit of setup to let the units know about each other. Details about that process can be found in the updated installation guides posted at: http://dynonavionics.com/docs/support_documentation.html

Hey

Had the same problem. I posted a solution on the vans air force forum. Basically the serial port pin connectors are mismatched. Dynon will tell you to connect pin x to pin y and it will work, which is true, however pin x and pin y no longer line up with the 3.0 version and the null connector used. I just ran a hard wire between the two correct pins on the serial connectors and presto it worked! I used their early wiring diagram and have had my D100/D120 installed for about 18 months. Hope this helps!
