For a few months now I've been having difficulties inserting wires into some dsub connectors ie having to use an insert tool to get them to go to the detent position but just thought that it may have been caused by a few connectors that were slightly 'out of spec'.
A conversation today with an avionics manufacturer has led me to think that there may a lowering of manufacturing standards, a bad batch or counterfeit units circulating.

Just thought I'd put it out for awareness - could be another reason why some people are having issues with their avionics, nothing more frustrating than being convinced you wired something correctly only to find a connector is faulty - I got caught today with a supplied test loom that I'd been using for a while,  hope it doesn't happen to you. ;)

A simple pull test on the wire (don't pull too hard) would prevent this situation  :)

Thanks Jake,

As usual, I appreciate your advice.   However, experience pushes me to first suspect operator competence.

G'day again Jake,

Yes, as you expected, my competence is suspect, not yours.   Apologies for the unintended ambiguity.

Thanks for the phone call, I always enjoy our yarns, and your generous advice and help.

No worries , accepted !! :)

The main point here is that people are aware of differences in manufacture of the connectors & that everything needs to be checked, not just continuity of wiring :)

Cheers,
