D10A backup not showing heading

I have a typical SkyView dual 10" display setup in my C210F with a D10a as a backup - however I've noticed that the D10a does not show a heading readout. I thought this was normal for the backup feature until I looked at the D10a specs. Did my installer do something wrong? Does the D10a need its own ADAHRS or can it share the one driving the SkyView?

But, unfortunately the remote compass is not approved as part of the installation for the certified STC. Neither the D10A or the newer D30 have heading information in certified installs.

Oh I didn't know that. I got that information from the Dynon Certified website

Well that was simple - good ol compass will have to do in an emergency

When I put the Skyview in I saw this and left the compass on while not understanding why the remote was not approved to begin with. I thought about putting the latest backup in but don’t see where it has a compass function that is STCed either . Funny how an AV30 doesn’t have this problem.

Not really. The AV30 doesn't use a remote compass, so it makes sense.

Unfortunately, you can't install the AV30 as the primary standby with the Dynon kit. You can install it, but you also have to put the D30 somewhere....

I love the idea of the AV30 for a standby, and running the TailBeaconX as a diversity Transponder backup...

Underneath the seat would work for me. The D30 is great. But until they make it display heading information, I don't consider it a viable backup. Fortunately, I'm not in the certified world, and I can make my own choices.

I did like the clarity and the look of the D30 and considered replacing the D10. But, unless the D30 gets the compass or other functions it’s like comparing girl friends who wear different clothes.
