D10A internal battery

I have had the D10 on the bench for a number of days while working on the rest of the panel and suspect the number one button has been nudged leaving the machine running (unnoticed) for a while and exhausting the internal battery.
I have hooked up the unit with 12v to pin 1 looped to pin 2 and grounded to pin 3. After six or seven hours there is no sign of life in the internal battery in that if I pull the plug the instrument blanks out and loses its time settings etc.
When running on external power the battery state meters show 12v for the master but zero for the internal (after the six hours).
Does the internal battery voltage only read out when the instrument is using it or should it read all the time?
If the internal battery has entered deep discharge do I have a problem?
I used a 12v supply as that is what I use in the glider so it was to hand.

If you really, completely discharged the battery, you may need to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to come back. We've seen this a few times. Just take the door off the back of the unit, and unplug then re-plug the battery connector. Then plug it into main power and turn it on. It should charge then, and show up on the internal battery voltage.

Don't try and turn it on off the internal battery until it has charged for a few hours- that could re-trigger the protection circuit.

If you don't have firmware 4.0 or newer on the unit you should update when you have the chance as well, as it fixes many of these problems.

OK, I've tried temporally unplugging the internal battery then reconnecting the external power. However after 1 hour of subsequent running , the internal battery indicator still shows zero volts.

I understood your instructions to mean isolate the instrument from all sources of power before unplugging/replugging the internal battery. Then reconnect external power and turn on. If I have misinterpreted what you meant please tell me.

I need to make up a PC lead to install V4 (this unit has shipped with 2.19) which is tomorrow's job. In the meantime is there anything else I should be considering?

Further to the above, I notice that when I plug in the external power the unit starts automatically. Can I disable this feature so that it only starts on command?

Updating to firmware v4 has cured the problem with the battery. Thanks for your help there.
The question of the unit autostarting remains.

There is currently no way to have the EFIS not turn on when it goes from having no power to having power.
