D10A OAT and EDC10A problem

Finally decided to mount an OAT on the D10A. After being in and out of the tail of the F1 five times now, it is time to ask:
Neither the oat or D10A work.
I updated the firmware today. Every time I checked the firmware edition, it came back with no EDC. Checked the wireing (factory harness on EDC) three times, no problems I can detect.
Any ideas.

Just because it's a factory harness doesn't mean it's perfect - my harness had two wires swapped around! Check every wire is connected to where it should be, and that there are no shorts between any of the wires... This is a time consuming process, but worth it...

25c2 = 299 different combinations of pins... Good luck

Use a meter and ring through each pin. My OAT (and remote compass) in my D-10 wasn't working either. I found that I had mis-wired two pins (they were shifted one pin over).

I too had the problem with the remote compass not being recognized on a new installation.  I checked the harness connections with a VOM and all four wires are correct per the installation manual.  I did notice that the voltage to the EDC is NEGATIVE and equal to the internal battery voltage in the D10A.  Tonight it worked for maybe 10 or 15 seconds when the internal battery was fully charged, then the red alarm EDC NOT FOUND started to appear again. The OAT probe is not connected yet. Could that be part of the problem?

This is a new installation for a friend in his RV-8.  I have been flying my D10A with remote compass and OAT in my RV-9A for over 200 hours since June 2005 with no problems.  Is there something I am missing?  I have not opened up my RV-9A to verify the voltage polarity to the EDC unit on the DBM-9 connector.

Is it OK to update the software if the unit is having these alarms?

The voltage to the EDC should be +16.8V. It should not be negative. If you are reading -16.8V with reference to ground, something is seriously wrong or mis-wired.

We'd suggest not updating the firmware until you can see the EDC. You're less likely to have problems in the future if you wait.

That raises two questions about not updating the software for the D10A:

1. When software is updated, is there any software transferred to the EDC unit?

2. Does the OAT probe need to be connected to the EDC during any software upgrade?

Yes, software is sent to the EDC. Please have it connected when doing an update.

The OAT does not have any software, so it can be disconnected.
