I have a D180 with AP servos, and am looking to upgrade my current GTX-327 to a GTX-345 for ADS-B compliance. Can the D180 accept the RS-232 GPS information from the GTX-345 (ADS-B+ format 1)? If so, this would allow the autopilot to follow a ground track instead of just HDG mode. I can't find anything in the D180 documentation about the specific aviation GPS formats it can accept.

Thanks,
Mike

The 345 is not a GPS navigator so I don't think it would work for the purpose you propose.

According to the 180 documentation, it supports only Aviation and NMEA formats.

To quote the installation manual:

To use the GPS-related features on your EFIS and/or EMS,
your GPS must output either “aviation format” or the
following NMEA sentences in its serial stream: $GPRMC,
$GPRMB, $GPGGA, and one of $GPBOD or
$GPAPB.

Just GPS position data is sufficient for the D180 to follow a ground track, which is all I want. So, the real question becomes... is the GTX-345's (ADS-B+ format 1) an "aviation format" that the D180 understands?
