D180 FlightDek compass ribbon lag in steep turns

I have just taken delivery of a 5 year old Foxbat A22L with the D180 installed and I had to demonstrate 60 degree steep turns to my instructor. I was surprised by the huge lag with the compass ribbon. To roll out on West, turning to the left, I had to stop the turn at an indicated North with the ribbon taking several seconds to update to the Westerly heading. Is this normal for the D180? I have some other questions, being new to the Dynon, but will ask under different titles. Thanks for any help, James.

That's not normal. After you stabilize, after a few seconds, does the heading then creep over to the correct heading reliably? Does it act the same way when turning the other direction?

Thanks for your reply. I have found the previous owner had configured the compass using the declination figure rather than the inclination. This was a gross error and it shows an accurate heading now ( it was 10 degrees out) but I have not performed any steep turns to test the lag. I'm hopeful, though, that this adjustment will have improved matters.

Presumably you recalibrated with the new correct number in there? That number is only actually used during calibration. Having it really wrong would definitely cause heading issues, though.

Yes I recalbrated and its reported heading appears spot on, just need to try some steep turns to test for lag, thanks, James.
