My RV8 is ready to fly. I turned on the power last week and received a "internal battery low charge" message. Other than cranking it up and going flying, allowing the internal battery to charge, is there anything else I should do or check prior to flying?

To charge your FlightDEK-D180 internal battery:

  • Connect a battery charger to your main battery
  • Turn on your avionics bus
  • Turn on the FlightDEK-D180
When the D180 is powered up, it is charging the internal battery in the background.

The D180's internal battery is fully charged when it reaches 16.8V (which you can monitor by turning on the "VMETER" Info Item). The internal battery can take up to four (4) hours to fully charge.

My D180 continually shuts down during flight (blank screen) Turning the master off and back on restores it. I guess it is a loose connection somewhere. Aircraft is a new Foxbat, so I'm not suspecting dodgy wiring. Any ideas?

Chadman:

Are any error messages displayed, like excessive heat warnings?

If you're losing avionics power, but have an internal battery, the unit should switch over to the internal battery, but display a warning message about shutting down in 30 seconds (and counting that down), with the option of staying on with internal battery power, prior to shutting off.
