Planning on powering D180 from hot battery bus through a limiting switch(http://www.byonics.com/apo3/). Prior to engine start D180 will be selected on. The unit does not have battery back up; D100 has batt b/u. Will the internal clock be powered? and will this configuration/procedure work?

Thank You.

So basically, that looks to be a switch to the battery with a time delay. Once it removes power from the load (the Dynon), it will be unpowered just like it were switched off with a normal switch. As we no longer recommend connecting the keep alive line, your clock settings would be lost between uses. However, if you have a NMEA GPS connected, the Dynon will take the time from it once it has its sat lock.

The delay switch would activate only if the battery voltage dropped below a programmable value.

If the D180 were connected to the HBB with the power switch turned off, would the clock be powered similar to a vampire load?

Is there any problem with operating the D180 as described in previous email?

Yes, as long as there's power available to the power pin that's between 10-30V, the clock will be powered, and the unit will draw a small amount of current (~10ma or more) to power the clock and do other housekeeping things. You don't want to keep the unit on in this state, though - over time it WILL discharge the battery (ie, you'll need to find a cutoff voltage that is low enough to let the D180 run for days, but not low enough such that it deadens the battery). Also, when powered in this configuration, you'll need to manually turn off the D180, since your device will make it look like it has continuous master power.
