Has anyone had a problem wiring their 180 to a lasar ignition. I can't find anything in the lasar literature about whether or not its voltage output is between 10-50 volts. I'm stumped.

The voltage on the pulses that come off the Lasar systems aren't high enough to drive our tach input. We'll have a small converter board out at some point, but we don't have a firm schedule for its availability.

Also note that you can use the Vans tach transducer (part number IE VTACHGEN ) which screws into the tach drive as an alternative. See this post for more information.

I've noted that already in another board (probably EMS), Lasar has their signal output described in SL 1-96 section 7 as minimal 1.5V and max 4.5V, however I never checkd it directly.

That is way to low however my EMS-10 is working with this direct hook up since more then 200hrs.

No idea why

Regarding Dynon coming out with a tranducer to mate up with the Lasar ignition, do you want to beta test it on my airplane/ I should be ready to fly in a few more o=months.

We still don't have a firm schedule in place at this time.

AFS sells a pickup that will screw right into the side of the Lasar MAG and will send the pulse to the D180. Might be just the ticket you are looking for. Double check with them to be sure it can handle 12-14v...

Thanks for the information, but who is AFS?

One of Dynon's competitors.. But I am sure they won't mind if it will work.

Be sure to ask them about the voltage range of that sensor before ordering one.

Doesn't the Lasar have a RS232 output?

Why couldn't Dynon use it as it also has things like MP, amount of advance, CHT (only one), and status?...

Check the specs on the Lasar - I suspect that the voltage that is sent to the coils is the same as aircraft system voltage, similar to the Lightspeed unit. If this is true, there are folks who have successfully tapped that pulse with a small resistor to obtain 2x pulses per revolution. Sorry I lost the link, and I now have a Lightspeed III (which has a specific wire for the rpm), but you can probably find it using Google.
