D180 Temperature out of Spec Message

Hello
I've had a new D180 since last June (2010) in My Pipistrel Sinus, Installed by the factory in Slovenia.

I've had a recurring problem which I've lived with, in that, I occasionally get a message in Yellow roughly over the horizon bar, 'Temperature out of Spec'. It seems to happen in various temperatures and flight profiles.

The factory have suggested holes in instrument panel and an electric cooling fan - all done. But the problem occurs still.

Does any one have any ideas for a fix, or , exactly what is out of temperature spec?

Kind Regards Alan

The temperature out of spec message means that the unit is self-sensing that it is going over 50C (122F). It doesn't pose any immediate thread to the unit, but some of the sensors and components that are used in our products are beyond their specified ranges at that point, so the display warns you.

I'm not sure we've ever seen a failure of the temperature-sensing sensors, so we'd put our money on the heat being real. Some people have used remote-probe oven meat thermometers to figure out the temperature of the area behind the panel. Feel free to give us a call at 425-402-0433, though, if you want us to take a look at your unit and help you investigate further.

Hi
Thank you for the reply.

The thought was, as the warning came on in the first instance, when it was a relatively hot day during acceptance in slovinia, that the heat was real, as you suggested.

But, the last two occasions the warning occured was in the cruise at altitude, (11,000ft) so the joined up thinking suggests it may be something else. (Is their a minumum temperature limit sprang to mind?) Or some other issue than a faulty sensor?

Kind Regards Alan

Again, our primary suspicion is that the heat is real, though there is always a small chance that something is wrong with the unit. As we mentioned, we haven't ever seen a failure of the temperature sensor. Is there a way you can monitor the temperature of the area behind the panel near the D180? If so, that might help you understand whether or not the temperature warning is real or not.

Hi, The temperature out of spec message has continued intermittently since the unit was new, (but with no other consequences on its (the units) operation, that is to say it has worked well). I am 99.9 per cent sure the heat is NOT real. I spoke with you about the repair and you mentioned the warranty was for three years so I would like to make arrangements for repair before it is out of warranty. Can you give the address to send it to and the approximate time of repair so I can schdule the down time. At present the aircraft and unit are in Spain. Thanks in anticipation for your help. Regards Alan Baker

That message comes up when the unit senses that it is over the spec'd temp. Usually, just getting some airflow past the unit is enough to solve it. But we're happy to take a look at it, just the same, if you don't think you have that problem. You need an RMA to return the unit. Call or email our support department directly at 425-402-0433 or support at dynonavionics dot com.

Hi,
I'm still living with the temp out of spec warning coming on, seemingly in a random fashion.
Could you send me an RMA number to alanbjm@flyglide109.com Thanks in anticipation. Alan.

Please contact Dynon Technical Support directly to arrange for an RMA - support@dynonavionics.com. They need additional information to start an RMA. (Update - passed your email along to Tech Support, and they sent you a message about setting up an RMA.)
