The setup is a D180, AP74, G496, SL-40 and GTX327.

It's been a frustrating day trying to connect my D180 to a G496(and SL40 and ELT). I've used the EFIS D-25 harness pin #22 (serial RX) to the blue output pin on the G496. GPS is set for Aviation In/NMEA & VHF Out at 9600 baud. I've tried many configs on the D180.

I'm not sure I should have connected to the D25 pin #22. The manual isn't clear. ANybody have any comments? Thanks in advance. Rick 90432 :-X

Pin 22 is the right pin, but if you're connecting into the other end of that wire on the D9 connector, make sure it's pinned out correctly. If you've ever successfully done an update on your unit, then it's definitely working right as the update process uses the same serial port connected to your computer.

Beyond that, are you seeing magenta anything on your HSI page (and is there a NAVSRC button? If there's no magenta or NAVSRC button in the menu, then the EFIS isn't seeing the 496 at all. You have the core settings correct there, but also check that under the Advanced NMEA setup (highlight the NMEA out line, hit menu on your 496), that output rate is set to normal. And on the EFIS local serial port setup, make sure everything is set to auto. Make sure that somehow, the 496 and the EFIS are connected to the same ground plane. If they're both hooked up to ships power, that shouldn't be a problem. Beyond that, if all of the above check out, you may be looking at a broken wire, or, in the worst case, a problem with one of your units. Historically though, the serial ports on our products are pretty bombproof.
