I'm installing a D180 and Garmin 250XL.  I'm using the Encoder Serial-to Parellel Converter for my Narco AT150.  My only other Dynon product is the AP74 which should not affect my question.

Because of the age of the Garmin installation manuals, there is a limited amount of information about how to make the UNIT send/receive information with the D180.  Here are my issues:

GPS information OUT to D180
  Dynon EMS DB37 Pin 19
  250XL RS232 Out2 Pin 19 NMEA0183?
  Or
  250XL RS232 Out1 Pin 24 Aviation Format?

Dynon manual says the D180 can handle either format, so I would like to know which one is best and how to format each Unit.

D180 Altitude OUT to 250XL
  D180 DB25 RS232 Pin 13, 21 Format 1 (required by converter, do I wire in parallel with 250XL?)
  250XL Pin 17 IN1?  Which Format should I select?
250XL Pin 18 IN2? I read that this is a PC interface and reserved?

D180 Fuel Flow to 250XL?  Is this possible or even needed?  I suspect the GPS information to the D180 will tell me what I need to know for fuel computation.

Many thanks!
Jimmy

Reply from Dynon Tech:

250XL GPS info to D180:
250XL DB37 pin 19 (RS232 OUT 2)
to
D180 DB37 pin 19 (RS232 B RX)

Configure the Dynon and 250XL RS232 for NMEA 0183 as the Zulu Time from the 250XL will keep the D180 clock updated.

Dynon is in EFIS-SETUP-HSI-GPS

250XL is in the pilot guide,  Section 6 I/O Settings.  While holding the MSG button, turn the inner knob to find I/O page.  Select OUT to plotting.

Dynon does not say it will work, but I think I should be able to use the Serial Altitude Encoder signal from the D180, as a Serial input to the 250XL.

The D180 is configured for Fromat 1, as I am using the serial-to-parallel converter.

250XL I/O Channel 1 allows for serial altitude input from:
Icarus - ALT
or
Shadin - ALT

Does anyone know which serial altitude format from the 250XL matches the D180 Format 1??

Icarus Alt & Format 1 should do it ;) If you decide to use serial only data from D180 to the 250 then set the Dynon to Format 4, that way you have only one wire connecting the 2 units.
