Dead Battery?

I trial fitted my system about 18 months ago and then removed everything while I had the final panel cut/labeled/painted. I am now final fitting everything.

The standby battery was not recognized so I told the system it was connected. However, even after about 2 hours charging it is still showing zero volts and connection error.

Have I, as I suspect, killed the battery or can it be resurrected?

So know that the backup battery only charges when SkyView is seeing above 12.25V. If f that's what it's been receiving, one thing to try is to apply power (per above), wait a few minutes, and then cycle that power supply off, then wait a few minutes, and then repeat that a few times.

The reason for trying this: SkyView only looks for the battery for the first few minutes after it's been turned on. After that, it assumes one isn't connected. One that's been discharged and has been sitting for a while can look like it's not there at all because of the battery's own internal protections. When in that state, it might need a bit of coaxing to start charging again. If this procedure works, you'll want to let it charge until SkyView says the battery is charged, then perform the battery test (see the installation manual for details), and then, if it passes, finally charge it back up again.

If it doesn't work, get in touch with our technical support. Or if you'd rather us take a look at the battery, we can have it back pre-emptively to check it for you.

OK - managed to get the battery on-line again. However, I couldn't get the charge above 11.5v. After a couple of goes it got up to 12.0v. However, when I do the battery test the voltage under load immediately drops to about 10.7 and fails after 38 minutes.

The battery is a couple of years old but hardly been used although it did get run down pretty dead........

If the backup battery never got above 11.5V, and the system still said it was charging (and not in standby), then that battery might need replacement. How long was the system on external power and charging?

It was on charge for most of the day. It initially got to 11.5v and then went to standby. I ran it down a little and recharged. After a couple of attempts, I got it up to 12.0v (standby). Then I did the battery test - 38 minutes, fail.
