Experimenting with my HDX map feature today, I found if I touch anywhere on the screen, then press the

button twice, the Flight Planner will create a direct flight plan from my plane's current position to the location I touched on the screen. It does this without me needing to create or add a user defined waypoint. I have searched the Pilots User's Guide and found no reference to this feature. Has anyone found info on this in Dynon's documentation?

Top of page 5-46 (in Rev G of the HDX Pilot's User Guide) I think addresses that. The first press of the DIRECT-TO button creates a temporary MAP POINTER waypoint, and the second press sends you there.

"When in Map Panning Mode, pressing DIRECT-TO will cause a temporary MAP POINTER waypoint to be created that allows you to navigate Direct-To the location that you are pointing at with the map pointer. (Note that this waypoint is not stored as a user waypoint. See the section on User Waypoints for more information about using the user waypoints feature)."
Thank you RV8JD! That section of the Pilot's User Guide is what I was missing.

The next paragraph after the above further details how to get a Map Pointer waypoint into a current flight plan:

"When in Map Panning Mode, the MENU > USER WAYPOINTS > ADD MAP CURSOR POSITION
menu item will allow you to create a user waypoint and immediately add it to your flight plan."

Not as simple as "rubber banding" a leg to add a waypoint but a doable way of adding a non-descript waypoint into a current flight plan.
