I have a very nice RV-9A I purchased 6 months ago. In it, there is a D-100 EFIS and D-120 EMS, A GNS 430 (non-WAAS) and GTX327. My autopilot is a True Trak Vision. If I want to be able to shoot approaches and use the HSI along with vertical guidance, do I need the HS34? I miss instrument procedures and would like to be able to shoot some once in a while. I'm new to experimentals so go easy on the builder's speak. ;)

You do need the HS34 to get any VOR/LOC/GS data out of the 430. With the HS34 you will have an HSI for horizontal and vertical data.

The 430 non-WASS doesn't give any vertical guidance out of the GPS side, so you pretty much get everything GPS it can do without the HS34. The WAAS one would benefit from the HS34.
