Dual Lightspeeds

I have dual Lightspeed Ignitions on an IO360. The engine runs just fine but I can not get any RPM to register on my Skyview? I have connected pins 34 and 35 of the Skyview EMS to the Lightspeed Input Connector pins 6 (L & R) and grounded the shields as per the Lightspeed drawings. I have not added a resistor. I set the pulses/revolution in the EMS Setup to 2.

Any suggestions?http://dynonavionics.com/public_html/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/undecided.gif
Thanks.

A resistor definitely wouldn't help, and you're already on the low voltage inputs. Which Lightspeed models do you have?

It may just be that the lightspeed's output pulses are just too quick for SkyView to read. Some have had success with lightspeeds plus our products, while other have reported what you have. Other customers have ended up using the Vans tach transducer to get a 12V pulse into our system.

Hello Dynon Support,
I have Lightspeed Plasma III ignitions. I'm hoping there is a solution between Dynon and Lightspeed where I do not have to revert to a Van's Tach Transducer? That just seems like a step backwards.

How old are the Lightspeeds David? The original ones output a much lower signal voltage which Dynon might have trouble reading. Claus will update them to the new configuration for free. I think the new ones put out a higher pulse voltage which the Skyview reads just fine.

The Lightspeeds were purchased with my Firewall Forward Kit from Van's in mid 2007. I am a bit of a slow build but the engine is running well. I had one email exchange with Klaus and he suggested the pinout on the Skyview may be at fault? I will email him again and see what he says about an update.

Thanks.

Below is the reply I received back from Klaus. If there is no other solution I guess I will have to take them out and send them back for modification. My Plasma IIIs are version A.

Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks
David

Dave,

Versions A have an open collector output that works with the JPI and Vision engine monitors. See the notes on the tach wire.
You can return them to have the tach signal modified to a 10V pulse, the cost is $35 per system.

David:

Your best option is to take Klaus up on his offer to update your Version A Plasma IIIs to the 10V pulse that will be compatible with SkyView SV-EMS-220 Low Voltage RPM Input (Left and Right) - pins 34 and 35.
