Hi, has anyone experienced the problem of a D10A screen repeatedly turning to an emergency chek list in flight (white text on black background)? Pressing any button returns the screen to normal, but not for long! At the same time, the unit seems to be overheating (hot when you touch it).
Any suggestions about the remedy?

Well, not so easy to contact Dynon Support from Europe...
I thought updating my D 10 A with the latest software available on the internet might help. But having connected the EFIS to my computer via a USB-to-serial wire, the download instructions are asking to have the EFIS powered. How do you achieve that without an internal battery?
Sorry I'm not an expert...

On your first issue - that sounds like something inside the unit is broken or stuck, causing button 4 to be pushed repeatedly. This is the button which, if pushed a couple of times, will result in you ending up in that checklist. I'd try pressing or lightly hitting button 4 to see if that frees up the button. If it doesn't, we'd need to see the product here for repair.

On the other issue - the unit can powered externally by either a regulated power supply (anything between 10V-30V DC is OK, or via an aircraft/automotive battery. An aircraft/automotive battery charger should NOT be hooked up to your unit to power it, unless it is also connected to and aircraft/automotive battery.

Thanks for the answer. But concretely, how do I power the D10A after removing it from the aircraft and connecting it to my PC for updating via the USB port? The unit screen is not on and I don't know how to power it externally...

You need to get 10-30V on the power/ground wires. You can do that via a regulated power supply or a charged aircraft/automotive battery.

I must be very stupid... I still do not see how you can connect a D10A to a power source when it is removed from the aircraft and connected to the USB port of a PC via a USB to serial wire (the screen remains turned off, how can I have access to n°1 power supply pin?)

The back of the Dynon has a 25 pin connector, but it's not JUST a serial port. It's a D25 connector that contains connections for power, ground, a serial port, audio, and more. So whatever that D25 to D9 is that you've connected (an old style serial port converter, probably), it's not going to work at all.

Take a look at page 2-2 and 2-4 of the D10A install manual at http://dynonavionics.com/docs/support_documentation.html.

You need to either build a 25 pin harness that has power, ground, and the 9 pin serial port hanging off of it as shown. Or, alternatively, you can buy a spare D10A harness from us ($90) to see how that 25 pin connector needs to be broken out.
