Unfortunately Dynon has changed the connectors from the original heated pitot tubes, thus replacing the connectors on both the pitot and controller is required.  And this was supposed to be a plug and play swap-out.  Dynon can't even give me a part number or supplier for the original connector and they don't have any to give me either.  Poor configuration control from my perspective. I'm frustrated since it's going to be a lot of extra effort to get at the controller that's buried in the wing to cut off and crimp on new connectors when I should have been able to just plug the new pitot tube in.

Do you need the "double bump" style connectors? I was able to find a few places on-line that had them (seemed to be mostly Canadian companies, oddly enough)...I can try to relocate the URLs if that would help...

PM me if you need info...I'm in your area.

We've definitely not always been perfect on configuration management, although we've gotten a lot better in the last few years. The heated pitot replacement program is highlighting some areas in which small product improvements / configuration changes are coming to light, especially since they span the entirety of the time we've been in existence. We're sorry that there have been a few small surprises here.

As for the old red connectors: They simply perform worse than the newer style, which is why we moved away from them some years ago. More often it was on the CHTs and EGTs where people would experience intermittent readings, but once we decided to set a higher bar and improve them there, we improved them across the board. So basically, we highly recommend that you use the new style connectors. As Steve says, the old red ones are available (sorry, not from us, and we aren't able to share the legacy supplier) but they're generally a step back in quality. If you want a set of the newer ones, we're happy to send them your way. Give our support team a call at 425-402-0433 or an email to support at dynonavionics dot com. You could additionally use any connector pairs that you'd like, or splice them together directly sans connectors. Just remember that they do carry current, so use best practices for joining them.
