Dynon Avionics has released a technical service bulletin that pertains to our Heated AOA/Pitot Probe. If you own this product, please read the service bulletin it in its entirety. In addition to the technical details, there are some important topics covered in the Frequently Asked Questions section after the bulletin that will answer many of the questions you may have.

Note that we are not issuing a product recall at this time. Heated AOA/Pitot Probes that are currently installed in aircraft may continue to be used, subject to the Operating Recommendations section in the service bulletin.

Are there any status updates Dynon can share on the heated AOA redesign?

I'd love to hear details on what changes are being made and how testing is coming along.
Thanks.

Any Updates on the Heated Pitot?
I have one on order since May. Just wondering when they will be corrected and shipping.
I have installed my SV system minus the Pitot and A/P Servos.

We're still working hard on the redesign and testing of the heated pitot - we don't yet have a date to share yet.

I have been flying three years with my heated Dynon pitot/AoA probe - D100/D120.

Now the 'Pito' indication on the EMS indicates OFF when I select power to the probe.    After about 5 min, it indicates 'ON' and the amp discharge increases from about 1 amp to about 8 amps over 1 or 2 seconds before indicating OFF again, and then the amps return to 1 amp discharge.   The cycle repeats every 4 to 5 min.

I checked the probe which took about 15 min to feel warm, then maintained a luke warm temp for the 30 min or so of testing.   The temp never rose high enough to cause discomfort when touching/holding the probe.

Please register my interest in a solution when it becomes available.

Regards,

Bob Redman

So in ambient air, the pitot will end up at 60+C. This is not hot enough to instantly burn you, but you shouldn't be able to hold the pitot for more than about a half a second before you're pulling away (perhaps a bit longer if you have money on a bet on who can hold on longer). So it sounds like something is up with your pitot. It could be in the controller or the tube. So once we have the trade-in program, we can tackle that half. We can also try a different controller now (but not the actual tube, given the service bulletin situation).

Thanks for the response.

I could hang on to the probe for as long as I liked without discomfort.

Rather than pay freight to & fro to & from Australia, I would prefer to wait until you have a solution, then consider the trade.

Until then I will continue to avoid the need for pitot heat.

Regards,

Bob Redman

Since this thread is primarily about our Heated AOA/Pitot Probe, I wanted to let you guys know that we have a big update on this issue, including a replacement program for any of you that currently have our Heated AOA/Pitot Probe. See this thread for more details.
