Dynon Not Displaying GTN 650 HSI

My SV shows the HSI source for the Dynon and the GTN 650 NAV (VOR green) however the HSI source for the GTN GPS is missing...

Interestingly...the bearing pointer on the SV will point to the waypoints of the GTN however the HSI source will not work...

So I could fly the GTN GPS using the bearing pointer the old fashioned way...or I can reach out to you all to see if there is something that I have setup wrong.

Any help...please...

Some additional information...

If I enter a flight plan in the gtn and then have it navigate to a waypoints on that flight plan the bearing #1 and /or #2 pointer needles will point to the fix and give distance.

And... if I select the flight plan page on the Skyview I can see all of the GTN waypoints that have been loaded from the GTN navigator and they are displaying distance/ track /ETE etc so I know that the navigation data from the gtn is indeed arriving in the Skyview... however... for some reason I cannot get the HSI source to show the GTN.

There's got to be some set up function that has not been appropriately entered. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you need to cycle between GPS and VLOC on the GTN unit. I’m not familiar with the 650, but on the 430 it’s the OBS button.

To expand on the above, assuming the 650 operates like the IFD440/540:

Your SV HSI select window cycles thru whatever signals are available to it. With no additional nav units added, the choices will simply be 'none' = no CDI and 'SkyView' = the CDI is driven by the SV flight plan. If you added a stand alone VHF nav radio and properly set it up, a third window gets added to the cycle. It will be labeled whatever name you choose for that radio in setup, and when selected the CDI is driven by basic VOR/ILS information.

If you then added an IFR GPS navigator that also has a VHF nav radio built in, in the case of the 440/540 (and likely the 650 as well) you only get one additional window added to the select cycle. Whether that newly added window displays your chosen (in setup) name for the navigator's VHF nav, OR your chosen (yet again in setup) name for the navigator's GPS, will be determined by a control on the IFR navigator itself. As correctly stated above, on the 440/540 it is the OBS knob being turned left or right. When switched on the navigator's panel, the name in SV's HSI select window promptly changes as well and the CDI will be driven by either basic VOR/ILS information or the GPS flight plan respectively.

The bearing pointer(s) have their own selection menu and are not connected to the HSI select window
/ cycle in any way.

Yes, you need to go to the GTN, to the default nav page, and hit the CDI button to switch from VOR nav to GPS nav. The Dynon knows which source you are using on the GTN and will display magenta for GPS or green for VOR/LOC. You don't get to choose on the Dynon which nav source you want on the GTN, you have to do it on the GTN.

Good news it is NOW WORKING!!!

Before I had a chance to come back to this forum I got an email from "Dynon Don" and he said...

-Go to setup menu - ARINC429 SETUP - ALLOW AUTO SWITCH -set it to NO

That did it!!!

The hardest part was having to roll the airplane out of the hangar to get a good GPS signal.

So to reiterate the previous problem...when I pushed the PDF HSI Input button it had SKYVIEW/ GTNGPS/ GTN NAV and the Skyview HSI needle would work and the GNT NAV green needle would work however the GTN GPS needle was blank. I could however press the bearing pointer #1 and #2 and cycle through all three options and they did indeed point to the the waypoints of the GTN...

I guess I still do not know what "NO" means...one thing I do know...in this case NO means YES it works...
