Dynon released new WiFi adapter?

Looks like Dynon just came out with a new WiFi adapter, which now has an external antenna on it. Dynon customer support told me it’s faster than the white one. But I’m not sure what that means. Faster how? What is the WiFi adapter used for other than pushing flight plans from an iPad? Mine already does that instantly so I don’t understand how it could be faster? The only issue with mine is sometimes it will drop the connection while flying and I’ll have to reconnect it to my iPad. But Dynon customer support specifically said the new adapter doesn’t improve connection reliability and only improves speed. I guess I’m just wondering if it’s worth upgrading my two WiFi adapters to the new one.

Wifi protocol standards are getting faster all the time, so it probably just has a newer standard. If you aren't having problems with your existing configuration, there's no good reason I know of that you should upgrade.

I am having a problem sharing iFlyGPS flight plan with my new HDX. It worked before on my original skyview. Help. my phone connects to the HDX, but it never receives anything. I've insured there are no other wifi devices to interfere.

I have 16.5.2 installed

Did you enter the wifi password into the new HDX? It doesn't transfer over.

Not likely. Device to device connections are intended for data sharing. Wifi network connections are intended for access points and routing. They don't typically share data. They just connect one point to another. They're not necessarily mutually exclusive, but they're typically set up to stay within one functional area. So the answer is, maybe, but I tend to doubt it. If it truly is just a newer wifi standard on the new adapter, it's also unlikely they've changed any functionality. But, you could always try.

Where is your wifi adapter plugged in? If it's to the connector on the HDX cable, it won't work. The connector on the cable is no longer supported.

Well that's interesting, it is in the little ~6" cable, don't understand how the cable is the problem, but, easy enough to remove it.

The cable likely isn't the problem, but Dynon disabled the use of it in the latest several software versions because there were repetitive issues with it. So, even if your cable is fine, you can't use it. Just use the plug on the back of the Skyview, or install an extender cable from it to a new plug on or under the panel.

So is there something special about the 4” USB extension cable that Dynon provided that’s different from using another extender cable? My Wi-Fi adapters are installed on extender cables mounted to my avionics shelf and have no issues, so what’s up with short ones Dynon provided?

I also use iFlyGPS (iFlyEFB now) and generally like it. I have found that after starting things up I have to go iFlyEFB and reset the connection. The button presses are "MENU - SETUP - ADS/B - Options - Reset / Reconnect". It is a bit of a pain and enough button presses that I put it on my pre-takeoff checklist. Once I reset the connection it works fine and has no problem pushing new and updated flight plans. It is a hard to say whether the problem is with Dynon or iFlyEFB.

It's not a USB cable extension cable issue. Dynon wiring harnesses used to include a USB plug built into the main wiring harness. It was not an extension cable. . They had problems using that plug, so they disabled it's functionality. This has nothing to do with the USB plug on the back of the Skyview. That should work fine, no matter what length cable you use.

Yes, I’m aware of the harness USB issue for the newer HDXs, but the discussions in posts #9 & #10 seemed to imply the extension cable. Thanks for the confirmation.

I don't like using old threads but I had a question. I run a Sky view touch with dongle and also use iFLY. I can't get the traffic to be pushed over to the iFLY EFB. Are you getting traffic to display on your iFLY EFB?

I recently moved from an Android table to an iPad. Now I have found that I have to "Shutdown" iFlyEFB and restart it to successfully connect to the Dynon. When I do that I get all the ADS-B info including traffic.
