Dynon SV-Comm Radio Strobe Noise vs. Squelch

I've been having trouble with one of my two SV-Comm radios breaking squelch when I turn on my strobes (LED) and / or landing lights (LED). Working with Dynon support they determined that the best way to resolve it was to increase the squelch on the radio (it is only a problem on Comm 1. Comm 2 has no noise at all). Both radios were set to a squelch setting of 70 from the factory. I increased the squelch until the strobe noise disappeared (86). But . . . because of the design, the squelch is reset on both radios at the same time. After resetting the squelch, Comm 1 works, although some friends at my home airport indicated that the sound was not as clear as before. Comm 2, no longer works at all. So I will have to go through the very complex process of setting each radio individually to end up with at least one radio that is sub-par.

Anyone have thoughts on another solution to this problem (other than buying different radios)?

I suggest working the root problem - the LED strobes and Landing Lights. There are some ways to mitigate the noise.

Thanks for the suggestion, Carl. We actually started there, but after providing all the information to Dynon, with only one radio impacted and it showing that it is receiving when the strobes flash, Dynon suggested resetting the squelch. We've verified all the wiring with both the strobes and landing lights and the primary and secondary alternators. Would appreciate any other thoughts you might have.

Swap antenna cables betwen com 1 and com 2 and see if the problem switches.

I had a slight back groud noise with my Aero LED Nav / Strobe lights while in the hangar.
Went away when plane moved outdoors.

However when I added a Wig Wag controller box to my PAR 36 landing lights which is about 10 inches from my Dynon Com, I get the hummmmmm.

Going to try some Ferrite coils on the feed and load lines and see if that makes an improvement.

If you have on older vintage, Areo LED Nav/strobes can put out a boatload of RFI, more on the Nav side then strobe.

I fixed this problem by adding a small backing plate on the fiberglass side of the wingtip mount. The Nav/Strobe ground wire is cut short, then connects to a Nav/strobe mounting screw on the backing plate side. The shield from a three #20 conductor shielded wire connects to this same screw. See attached photo.

The shield providing aircraft ground, one #20 for nav power, one #20 for strobe power, and one #20 for strobe sinc. This one mod eliminated 99% of the RFI.

Aero LED later sent me a newer version of the product and it was better. I still however used this backing plate.

What strobes and landing lights are you using?
Carl
We have Aero LED strobe/nav and landing / wig wags. I'm realtively confident it is not specifically the lights, as only one radio is giving me trouble.
