Dynon,

Please walk me through your design intent on how you guys programmed the Legendary system to flow when using a 430W, AP, and HS34 when shooting a LOC based approach.

I will list what I have been doing but would like to know if there is a better procedure.

Scenario: Using the 430w to provide GPSS steering to the AP to setup the initial approach to the localizer. Navsource for the HSI and AP set to GPS1(430w).

Upon joining the LOC inbound and right before the FAF, the 430w says to switch to VLOC mode.

When I switch the HS34 to VLOC Nav mode, the AP throws an error about loosing it's source so I clear the error and reselect NAV on the AP so now it is tracking the LOC info.

Now I manually turn the course knob to get the correct inbound course on the HSI (would be nice if this would initially sync to the correct course when a localizer is active.)

The AP flys down the localizer to the MAP and then if going missed, I disable the AP, fly the initial MAP procedure until I can start the 430w sequencing again, once it does, I can restart the AP in GPSS Nav mode and it flys me back to the hold point and holds.

The only thing I am questioning is the handoff from GPSS Nav mode to VLOC Nav mode. Seems this causes the AP to lose it's source and causes an alarm.

Is there a better procedural flow to follow when doing this transition while on AP?

First off, there's no way to turn the course automatically on our D10/D100 series because the 430 does not provide that information, and the D10/D100 series does not have an internal database which could even correlate ILS freqs and where you are in the world.

But maybe we're missing something. How can we tell what direction the ILS course is in?

But the nav source lost is due to the type of nav input changing on the D100. The autopilot is a little bit disconnected from the rest of the HSI, and when it sees one type of HSI go away and another appear, it thinks that it's lost the nav source.

Understand completely about no database in the Legendary Dynon....but thinking outside the box here...what about the GPS database and the current flightplan when shooting an approach?

It looks like label 100G is output over the VOR/ILS data lines of the 430W.

When in GPS mode, the 430W always outputs the course and keeps the HSI up to date so is it possible that the 430W outputs the inbound course when in VLOC mode?

If it does, why not use that to one shot sync the HSI course anytime a valid VLOC Nav source is selected on the HS34?

Sorry to have two threads running on almost the same subject....
Thanks for listening and responding to my thoughts!
