I feel that the answers to the questions I am about to ask should be obvious to me, but they're not, so here goes anyway. I am some months away from flying with my Skyview HDX. It may be (probably will be) that there is no ISP provided WiFi, nor even a telephone signal anywhere near the hangar where I will finish off the aircraft and fly its first few flights from. Just a quick couple of questions; will this lack of any signal either from an ISP or a telephone company preclude me from planning a route at home on either Skydemon or Foreflight and then transferring it to my Skyview after I reach the aircraft? Does the Skyview actually generate its own WiFI signal without any external help from ISPs or telephone signals, thus allowing route files to be transferred between devices. Thanks for any replies.

WIFI does not mean INTERNET access. IOW; the SkyView WIFI does NOT connected to the INTERNET. It provides a wireless connection between whatever devices are logged in to its WIFI. Think of it as the wireless router in your home for your computers, tablets and printers, but you didn't pay for INTERNET.

One way to do what you want, download the files on to a USB drive then upload the files from the USB drive in to the Skyview. I use FltPlanGo so I don't know about SkyView to Foreflight.

You are discussing a WiFi dongle versus the standard usb connection. The HDX doesn’t use WiFi unless you buy a separate WiFi connector that allows a dedicated connection like galinhdz mentions. That connection would be from a iPad or other mobile device and transferring the informatio. As also mentioned the standard way to plan a flight at home is you create The plan, save it as a .gpx format to a usb, take that usb stick to hangar and plug into usb connection on HDX, thanthe standard FPL import flight plan. There is no WiFi whatsoever required at hangar to do it this way.
to be clear, you don’t need a WiFi dongle to create a flight plan at home and import into plane. The WiFi is dedicated WiFi for EFB to panel as a option.

Thanks for the above 2 useful replies. One more question, if I may; my understanding, now, is that the Skyview Wi-Fi adaptors (1 x per Display, as per Page 15-13 of Dynon Skyview HDX System Installation Guide) are no longer required, since all can be achieved through the transfer of .gpx files by memory stick. That is, unless I intend using the dedicated Skyview GPS-250 in the air as an option to also drive my iPad via a "wireless Wi-Fi" connection.

You are correct the WIFI adaptor is not required. FWIW I use it mainly so my tablet, running FltPlanGo, has a real good GPS position and can display traffic from the SkyView system in addition to my MAP page. This especially insures the georeferenced approach plates have a good GPS lock.

I like having wifi capability on the Dynon but it's so much easier to flight plan program on ForeFlight then send it to the panel via wifi. But that's me.

Thanks lancair360. I’ve ordered 2 WiFi adaptors. Seems pretty cheap (2 x $35) for the extra capability.

Besides, who knows what additional capabilities might be provided over WiFi on future Dynon software updates?
