EGT Problems

I've had my Skyview almost 3 years and have replaced various EGT probes, some more than once. This always fixed my problem. As of late I've got some seriously odd readings that are all over the place (even the new probe)--everything else OK. Pretty much gave up trying to replace probes and am just living with it. Today, one of my neighbors with a fairly new Skyview mentioned that after his last firmware download he's getting the same kind of screwy readings that I'm getting. I see in 5.0 the EMS sensor definitions were redone. Could this be causing our problems? Both of us have troubleshot wiring and connections.

what are you seeing? EGT bouncing all over the place? that is an indication of a bad connection. I ended up needing to cut the Dynon connector and recrimp new ones for mine. Thus far no more jumping temps.
I think you meant 5.1. Version 5.0 was fine. If you have 5.1 consider downgrading back to 5.0 and see if the EGT errors continue, if YES than check the connector, if NO it's a 5.1 issue I'm sure Dynon support would be interested in.
Assuming you have 5.1 call support on how to downgrade.

I have EGT/CHT temp failure on Cylinder 2, 3 and 4 within the first 50 hours, all my problems were in the Dynon connectors, not the probe, after I rebuilt all of them, nothing failed.

My connections are good. NEVER had connection problems in 3 years with any of the sensors. Currently have odd cyls reading 400 degrees low. I assume since no Dynon response that they feel there is no new software issue (at least until others might complain). As all other readings are fine I'll just live with it.

We haven't heard of any kind of issue with firmware messing with EGT's, the sensor file didn't change EGT definitions, and the sensor file can't mess with only one of your EGTs. So it seems like something else is up.

The way I troubleshoot the intermittent connection problem is, I have some one watch the SV display for me (or put a big mirror to reflect the display to myself), and lightly touch the sensor crimp terminal (or wire near the crimp terminal), if the "jumping" corespond to my touches, then it's the connector issue, not the sensor.

You have changed the sensor so many times, why not try my way next time. Do it right after you have just landed, so the temperature environment will be similar to the hot flying condition. It's the expension and contraction which cause these poorly made connector to fail.

To be more precise about the problem.....when the factory made the connector, they bent the tip of this single conductor EGT wire to a "J" shape, only half of the J insulation was stripped, so when it was crimped to the terminal, the other half unstripped insulation (sleeve) acting like a sponge (or spacer), after so many hours of expension and contraction, the terminal contact turned loose and caused the intermittent problem.

Dynon normally doesn't like to admit their problem, I kind of eat the shit myself. But that was a year ago, don't know about now. By looking at their recent replies, they seem doing a better job now. will see how it goes this point and after.

I have made several posts re the Egt/Cht connector issues - I say yet AGAIN, most issues were/are with the terminal on the probe side ( not manufactured by Dynon) & some are with the crimping done by the builder.   The push on connectors themselves are ok but not as good as amp.   I think this is one area where the criticism of Dynon is not warranted IMO

Yeah me too but I was only referring to the probes :)
BTW, it was great to speak with you the other day & I trust the ADAHRS issue will be resolved soon.

Do you know, with people like me, Dynon will have to try harder to improve their product and their customer service.

I do hope when I get my 10" display back, my ADAHRS problem will be solved.

If they take good care of me, I'll take good care of them, I can be a great help with their Asian market.

Thanks for the help that you rendered.
