EMS Wiring

I'm helping my buddy with the wiring of his RV-7. I've installed the Skyview system in my own plane. He purchased the EMS 37 pin wiring harness and in it there is a DB9 connector with three wires going into it. Orange yellow and black. Those colors according to the installation manual will not be used. Does anyone know why the DB9 is installed and what is it for?

The harness is a 'generic' one which was developed with the Legacy units for updating etc, I just remove them
