As builds are protracted, you set things in stone as you progress - then these pesky chaps at Dynon improve and adapt and you wish you had waited.......

That was our case.

In England, the original mapping support was expensive, so for our RV8 we chose a compromise - 10" Skyview with a Garmin 695 beside it for mapping etc.

I am now doing the wiring and would like to know what needs to talk to what so that we can use the Garmin as the primary map and also to enable the Garmin to drive the autopilot in the Skyview.

I believe that the data out from the Garmin into the Skyview will be sufficient and will be able to be programmed later. The Garmin data will come in on serial port 1, the transponder on 2 and the Dynon GPS aerial on port 5.

Was hoping for traffic as well, but Trig popped my balloon yesterday and said it won't be available in Europe any time soon without mega expense - shame, no TIS and ADS-B only shows my day job colleagues ::)

The 696 will drive the autopilot just fine. The output will show on the HSI as it moves between points. The flight plan the 696 is using will not show on the Skyview map. The Skyview autopilot will not follow vertical guidance from the 696 as a certified receiver and a ARINC module are required for that. All in all you will get everything you originally planned and since the 696 has it's own map display with your flight plan shown, you should be fine.
