I am curious what others have done with the extra wires. I have a bunch of lonnng extra wires from the ems d37... Should I cut the off, but then what I need them later. Keeping them means extra weight. Please advise..

Your choice really but I would suggest if you do cut them just trim them back so that you can still connect to them later. This is so just in case you want to add another feature sometime in the future you can still connect to the wire.

I removed the USB and all the "Do Not Connect" pins on the SV D37 harness. The SV D37 is a female plug so I just used a small metal rod that fit into the hole and with a little pressure pushed the pin out the back. So I have the wire and pin intact and can install it if I need it again. Definitely cleans up the back of the panel.

There is a special pin remover tool for the male DSub plugs. Check at your local electronics shop.

Speaking of that, are all the pins in the EMS D37 harness? I went to use general Purpose Input 5 thru 8 and none of them are there? :-?

I used a pin extractor and removed all unneeded wires. Unused wires make great antennas which can cause problems, from my experience.

FWIW :) Using the metal rod to push out the sockets has just destroyed the retaining capability of those holes, just wanted you to know IF you wanted to add some wires later to them. The insert/retract tools are readily available.

I just rolled them and zip-tied them up for potential future use later. I haven't noticed any adverse antenna effects so far.

I'm with Jchang. Dynon may release some hardware that will require one of those "do not connect" it is easier, been there already with audio, to just grab the wires and place them where they need to go versus having to pull my panel apart to put wires back in. The more I mess with it the more chance I'll do something I'll regret, like break a connector or something else.
No idea if the loose wires is causing the EGT spikes, but I doubt it is doing anything.

Mmarien,

We're not sure what you mean by that. The SkyView D37 harness should have leads connected to those pins. Call or email us at support if you need to pursue this.

Figured it out. I remembered removing the pins from the SV D37 harness by the method noted above, but didn't remember removing them from the EMS D37 harness. After I posted that message I found the pins with wires from the EMS D37 harness so at some point I did removed them. My apologies for misleading the forum. The good thing is that I found my worksheet for that and I did leave the pins I needed for the additions and changes I recently made.

It's always good to keep a "notes file" of what you're doing with the wiring, because in time you WILL forget! I have a rather lengthy one for my bird so far, it will become part of the POH for maintenance. At each point where I have wire connectors (I prefer the Dsubs) I have on my notes file exactly what wire (and it's function) is on which pin. If I ever need to chase down an offending electrical circuit this will come in very handy. I made all my own connectors for all my avionics, if you prefer to buy the high-dollar premade ones from the manufacturer ;D, you will probably have that information in the printed literature.

Definitely a good idea to keep good notes. I used the worksheet at the back of the installation manual. When I found the wires I removed they matched up with the little "x" I placed next to the pin number on the worksheet. Go figure eh? I just have to be explicit with my notes. ::)
