FAA Letter - incorrect Hex Code

I received a letter form the FAA telling me on my last flight, they monitored my aircraft and I am displaying the wrong HEX Code.  I should display 50073375, however the system will only take six digits, and the Aircraft and Xponder displayed 500733, leaving the last two digits out.

While trying to confirm the system setup, I updated the software for my SV-XPNDR-262.  The menu for HEX code automatically changed to A076FD.

I fly in the Wash DC area.  How do I input the correct HEX Code?  Thanks  Tim

Check your registration online http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=129VA.  It will tell you what HEX code to input.  The one you tried, 50073375, is the base 8 code (octal), not base 16 (hexadecimal).  Just below the octal code in your registration should be the hex code, which you will see is A076FD.  This is what you should use.

And as a note, in v14 and later SkyView software, we automatically set this based on your N number for US registered aircraft so you no loner need to look it up.

hmmmm....My Transponder Hexcode on Skyview v14 says 403419 but on the FAA page it says AB7770.   The Octal Code is 52673560 so its not close to that number either.  I have another open post saying FAA and Flightaware don't have my new 2020 ADS-B data in system.  Related?  Thanks!

Your Hex code is wrong. It should be AB7770. You have an S-LSA....This should have been setup correctly at the dealer. Did you retrofit your aircraft with Skyview (via the LOA), or is it "factory"...(Really dealer, as it turns out)?

Mr N456TS, it was an upgrade performed recently at Flight Design USA to install a new GPS-2020 and v14 under LOA.

Yep, you need to fix that HEX code for your various compliance checks to work. Under v14 this can be auto set, but if it was set wrong before v14 we don't change it on you. Change your tail number up and down one and see if it fixes it. When I tried it here on a v14 system with your N number it set it correctly.

Doesn't matter which screen you change it on.

You can't set the HEX code manually in v14 if you are in the USA. SkyView calculates it from your tail number and we've never seen it be wrong. The issue for you is that it was set wrong in v11, and when you upgraded to v14 it keeps the old number. It only updates the number when you change your tail number.

You must change the tail number in SYSTEM SETUP -> AIRCRAFT INFO. The HEX code is there too and you'll see it magically change.

On either display, change the tail number, by one letter or number, and then change it back to the correct tail number. As soon as the SkyView display sees the tail number changed, it will automatically update the HEX code accordingly.

That SkyView display will then share the tail number, and updated HEX CODE, with the other display.

To answer your earlier question - "... FAA and Flightaware don't have my new 2020 ADS-B data in system.", yes, this incorrect HEX CODE is why your flights were not in those systems (under your correct tail number / HEX CODE).
